Altrusa International, Inc. of Glendale is a non-profit service organization that has been serving our community since 1954. The name "ALTRUSA" was coined from ALTR for altruism and USA for United States of America. It is intended to conceptualize a "devotion to the interest of others". We support our community through fundraisers held throughout the year for projects that include:
- Altrusa Salutes Youth, scholarship awards based on volunteerism as well as scholastic achievements
- Burbank Center for the Retarded – serving refreshments at their Fall Frolic
- Relay for Life, partnering with Kiwanis to feed the volunteers and workers
- YMCA – Campership funding for Leadership Camp
- Glendale Memorial Hospital Baby Gift Packs Project
- Glendale Public Library – bookmark contest
- Glendale Association for the Retarded – Bingo Party
- School on Wheels – providing donations of school supplies
- Burbank Temporary Aid Center – continuous food donations, as well as donations to their Santa’s Room Project at Christmastime
- Cerritos Elementary School Pencil Pal Writing Project
- New Citizen’s Recognition
